The Murang'a Water and Sanitation Company (MUWASCO) was established in 2006 as a body corporate with a mandate of providing water and sewerage services to Murang'a town and its environs. The company operates under a Water Services Provision Agreement (SPA) signed with Athi Water Works Development Agency- AWWDA who is the current Asset owner and the ownership will transit to the County Government of Murang'a.
The company is licensed by the Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB). Under the license, MUWASCO is mandated to provide water and sewerage services to all residents within its jurisdiction in an efficient and economic manner and within the confines of the Water Act 2016, water and sanitation guidelines, and the Constitution of Kenya. The County Government of Murang'a is represented in the Board of MUWASCO.

MUWASCO's area of coverage includes parts of Nginda, Murang'a town and its environs. The total area covered is 246 Kilometres square with an estimated population of about 175,000 people. The area covered includes:
The initial Sewerage treatment plant had a capacity of 178 cubic meters per day but was decommissioned after the completion of the current plant. The current sewerage treatment plant was constructed between 1991 and 1992 and commissioned in 1999 and an extension done in 2013. There are currently 6,500 sewerage connections.
MUWASCO has its head office in Murang'a town, at the junction of Nairobi – Murang'a road and Kangema road, with other satellites offices in Maragwa and Kambiti. The town lies 85 kilometres North-East of Nairobi, capital City to Kenya. Most of the area covered by the Company is hilly. Murang'a town is surrounded by two rivers, Mathioya and Maragwa and three streams - Murari, Gathamba and Njonguini.

Managing Director
With extensive management experience in water and sanitation services, Eng. Daniel Ng'ang'a leads MUWASCO's strategic direction and operations. He has attended numerous managerial and administrative courses focusing on innovation and service excellence in the water sector.
Commercial Manager
Leading commercial operations since January 2016, Chr. Joseph Maina oversees business development and market growth strategies. He brings international experience and holds a Master of Public Policy and Administration, with a focus on establishing effective commercial teams.
Technical Manager
Eng. Peter Karenju leads the technical operations with extensive experience in water infrastructure management. Since January 2016, he has been instrumental in implementing new technical initiatives and optimizing water production and distribution systems.
